Optimism as a Service.
Dear reader,
If you are receiving this email in your inbox, you are one of less than 10 subscribers that have decided to take a chance on this newsletter and support an important cause.
That cause is fighting pessimism.
The current state of the world in the minds of our generation is not one of hope. It is a bleak and dreary look, it is grief for a life never lived, it is anti-work, it is anti-love, it is pessimism at its worst.
My main goal is to change that.
I want to expose you to the uplifting, groundbreaking, jaw-dropping breakthroughs in science and technology being discovered on the daily, packaged in a weekly email delivered right in your inbox. Optimism as a service.
Thank you for taking this journey with me. My name is Jae Lee and I’m damn excited for the bright future. Now let’s start this show.

New space molecules, batteries, and magnetism, oh my!
source - wired.com
TL;DR:
Physicists have uncovered a new kind of magnetism, unseen in natural substances, happening in an engineered material only six atoms thick. Dubbed “Nagaoka ferromagnetism”, this magnetic alignment of electrons happens as they try to minimize their kinetic energy.
The discovery, in a material constructed from layers of semiconductors, only occurs at extremely low temperatures, opening up new vistas in physics for exploration.
The phenomena suggests there may be different, unknown mechanisms for superconductivity to be explored in the future.
Why should I care…?
Unlocking new forms of magnetism can have game-changing implications, potentially redefining how we approach energy production, storage, and transfer systems in a tech-centric future.
“fucking magnets, how do they work?”

TL;DR:
MIT researchers have developed a game-changing lithium-ion battery that substitutes cobalt or nickel with organic materials.
Bye-bye to the high costs, environmental impacts, and human rights issues related to cobalt mining. This innovation offers similar electricity conduction and storage capacity, at a fraction of the cost.
Even better, the catch-up game for charging times is over: these cobalt-less batteries can be charged faster than traditional ones.
So what…?
The current method of cobalt mining is dismal and Congolese miners are subjugated to terrible work conditions.
Additionally, sustainable and cost-effective energy storage is one of the main blockers to accelerating electric vehicle adoption and this new discovery could be the key to a green mobility future.
“always make sure to carry a banana to feed your flux capacitor.“

TL;DR:
Neuralink planted its first-ever brain chip in a human.
This chip, known as “Telepathy”, uses tiny threads to record and transmit brain signals wirelessly, allowing for incredible possibilities like controlling devices just by thinking.
The first human received an implant from @neuralink yesterday and is recovering well.
Initial results show promising neuron spike detection.

Despite enduring criticism around safety protocols and clearing the FDA's high hurdles, they are now ready to move onto the clinical testing stage.
And that means…?
A brain-computer interface could potentially revolutionize how we interact with the world, altering the face of medicine, technology, and even communication itself.
Imagine if people like Stephen Hawking had access to Telepathy. We’d be able to capture so much more knowledge and wisdom from humanity.
“elon wtf, i can literally see you thinking about polytopia again“

TL;DR:
Japanese researchers discovered cometary organic matter in samples from Ryugu, a near-Earth asteroid. These findings support the theory that ancient asteroid impacts could have brought life-seeding molecules to Earth.
The organic matter could be our long-gone cosmic cousins, essentially the seeds of life transported from the outer solar system.
Big whoop, and…?
This new research might uncover the mysteries of our existence and how life on Earth could have stemmed from the farthest corners of our solar system.
If life indeed originate from a seed molecule carrying asteroid, it brings us that much closer to finding out about our human makeup.

Technological Gratitude - Toilets
Every week, I’ll be making a shout out to technologies in history that we’ve taken for granted.
Every week, I make a tribute to mundane technologies.
Today's shout out is:
Toilets.
Here's why I'm grateful for them.
